Electric tenor ukulele

I have at last started production of the tenor uklectic style ukulele. These instruments have been designed differently to the concert uklectic and as a result, I will be redesigning the interior of the concert uklectic.

As with the concert I have used Spanish cedar for the neck and body. The body shape is an enlargement of the concert ukulectic shape. It is nice and fat and has a very substantial look to it. Yet it is also light because I have done away with the central support bar shown in the router jig on this page in the workshop section.

The prototype shown here has a koa drop-top. Although this koa is beautifully figured, it is very dark, boney hard and would not make a good acoustic uke. However, in this setting it is quite stunning!

I am fitting these with active pickups but no on-board volume and tone controls: this is where the modifications of the body cavity have occured to provide access to the battery clip and endpin strap button/jack socket.

You will note that the neck joins at the 15th fret - more like a Les Paul than a flat acoustic uke and that there is free access to the 20th fret. Truly an innovation since most tenors only have 19 frets!

I already have an order for an 8 string version so will be supplying these as well as 6 string configurations.

Prices are $765/£375 for 4 string. Enquire if you want a 6 or 8 string...
